Sustainability News Headlines - 9/1/2009 (and birth of Sonora Rose)

Note - I'm gradually getting caught up in updating the news following the birth of my first child -- Sonora Rose Gelbard, late Tuesday night. I can't tell you enough how proud I am of my wife, Suzanne -- wow!

Sonora means 'beautiful sound', and is also the name of a species of rose found in the Sonoran Desert. Our beautiful little daughter is going to have a lot of challenges to face as she spends her lifetime in a warming world, so it will be comforting to know she's as tough as a Sonora Rose...

Sonora's birth is really a stark reminder of just how important the work we do here at CVI is. At some point in the future, she's sure to ask me how all this warming came to be, how beautiful species that I got to see as a child are now extinct, and so forth. Her tough questions will only drive me to work harder as we at CVI do our best to advance our sustainable vision of a better world for our families, our communities, and the future generations that Sonora represents.

As the stories we post here in our news section remind us, it is happening. But lots and lots of hard work remains to pioneer the smart, creative approaches that we urgently need to bridge our daunting sociopolitical divides.

Enjoy the news -- some fascinating stories today, and more to come as we get caught up...
