Connecting Land Use Planning and Health Insurance Reform

One of the big drivers of the rise in health insurance costs is, well, that Americans are getting fatter and fatter.

We eat supersized fast food meals instead of cook our own fresh and healthy ones, we surf the web instead of exercise or socialize, we take our cars to where we need to go instead of walk or bike.  And the places many of us are going to -- thanks to suburban sprawl -- have become further and further from our homes and schools.

It would be much healthier -- and we would be much healthier -- if our communities were more walkable, bikable, and better served by public transport.  Not to mention the gas money we'd save...
