Carrots and Sticks: Saving the Amazon and Stalling Climate Change

Of all the stories I've read or heard about the fight to reduce deforestation in the Amazon and reconfigure the region's cattle-heavy economy to make conservation possible and profitable, this radio piece from Living on Earth is among the best.

Host, Bruce Gellerman, takes listeners on a remarkable journey from a federal bust of an illegal ranching operation, to a flight in a single engine plane with a rancher championing REDD (payments for the forest's carbon services), to a visit with another rancher joining the 'deforestation-free' beef certification created by the previous one.
